Quidditch and Guardians 8/8

I woke up around 9:30 and did laundry.
Chilled in my room, watched Netflix, etc.

In the afternoon, I went to quidditch, since I had nothing else going on. To be honest, I did not have high expectations for it, but Franky, Carly, and Sofia were all going, and Sofia had gone the week before.
1. I am extremely out of shape.
2. Quidditch is intense!!!! It's really physical and also there's so much running involved.
3. I met so many nice people!!!!!!!!!!

After quidditch, we decided we wanted to see Guardians of the Galaxy! aka the best movie of the summer (winter?).
Nick and Leigh from quidditch said they wanted to come too, and since Nick and Sofia live off campus, they came over, and I made THE MOST DELICIOUS PASTA EVER. I tried to be fancy and add mushrooms then realized that we did not have time to cook them. I found out Nick lived at University Terraces last year, when it was a lot cheaper and also had so much more (like pots and pans and cutlery).
We rushed through dinner, and met up with Franky and Leigh, and speed-walked to Ritz Cinema. It's pretty sweet, we get $8 tickets.

The movie was good!!!!!!!!!!! I liked it better than Avengers! I thought it was funny. I think maybe people are overhyping it a little bit, but I still thought it was good. I also found out that there are extra clips after the credits in all Marvel movies (and maybe all movies???).

oh ya and the movie theater has a bar.

Class Week 2 8/4-8/7

8/4

I had the Marine Environment for the first time! Out of all of my classes, it was the most interesting one. And we get to go on three "mandatory" field trips that are 50% of our grade. And we learn all about marine life and animals and plants, and I found out that Emily is in my class, which is a huge relief. And I also met her friend Ally from UNC.

8/5

Tuesdays are my busy day. Marketing is so boring, and it's so hard to concentrate for two hours with my professor's thick Indian accent. I kept nodding off.
Management is also boring. We learned about personality and how it relates to work behavior (behaviour).
And then I had my first tutorial (!!!) for management. My tutor is Graeme Taylor hahahaha he's a character.

8/6

I had two tutorials. Marketing tutorial, my tutor is Tony Lu (here and here). It's kind of funny at first because he has this weird British-Asian mixed accent. After a bit, it's just difficult to understand at times.

For my late lunch, I got pho from the Vietnamese place in my building.

Not only was this more expensive than in NYC, THEY CALL THIS BEEF PHO AND GIVE ME THE SMALLEST SCRAPS OF BEEF. THIS WAS AN OUTRAGE. THE BEEF COULD'VE BEEN THE TOOTHPICK PICKINGS FROM SOMEONE'S TEETH. AND THE BOWL WAS TINY.

Finance tutorial, my tutor is Mike Han Lin. We got placed in groups, and I met this guy named Oliver who is from Sichuan! And after class, we talked in Sichuanese for a bit. He was impressed, and said I speak with a very ~authentic~ accent.

After class, I made steak and mashed potatoes. They were quite delicious.

And after dinner, Chloe messaged me, and we spontaneously decided to go see Lucy, which she LOVED. It was alright to be honest.

8/7 Foundation Day!!!

There were a lot of tents and free stuff and people all over!

Carly (from Colorado) did this money thing where the fan blows the money and if you can catch $100 you can win a prize. I don't even know what the prize was. I'm pretty sure this is impossible.

Then, Franky went. I don't think he knew that you were supposed to catch money. I think he thought Carly was just dancing inside. So, he just kind of danced a little and then just kept posing for pictures and caught $0 LOL

THEN I rode a mechanical bull.

I think I lasted like 3 seconds.

Then Sofia decided to have a go at it.

AND LITERALLY, IF I BLINKED I WOULD'VE MISSED THIS. .5 seconds is generous.

There was also sumo wrestling LOL!!!!! I did not partake in this activity though.

Then, Sofia, Jennifer, and I went looking for this moon bounce. Actually, we knew where it was, but only UNSW residential building residents are allowed in. And my building is actually considered on-campus apartments (not dorms). How lame. So we couldn't get in. So we just went to the library lawn and chilled out for a bit. Sofia told us about a great deal at IGA (the supermarket downstairs of my building): TIMTAMS 2 FOR $5!!!

Australian birds are so funny looking.

Then I had finance, and my professor is a complete idiot. He told us that he doesn't know how to use Excel and does not know Excel formulas. But he's a finance professor.

The m00n

I went to IGA and got 2 for $5 Tim Tams and then did some Tim Tam Slams :D

And I made some lamb chops for dinner with some sweet potatoes.
And had cookies and cream ice cream for dessert.

Paddy's Market 8/3

The next day, I had toast with butter and vegemite for breakfast!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It actually tasted alright!! But I didn't put very much because apparently a lot of foreigners slather it on and do it all wrong. But I think I didn't put enough.

Then, a bunch of us went to Paddy's Market!

Paddy's Market is kind of like a flea market; it's just a lot of little stalls that sell random/touristy things for pretty cheap. And a lot of the people are Asian. I bought a few things.
From left to right: Betty is from France, Lareine is from Malaysia, Jennifer is from France, Sofia is from Sweden, Nannie is from Sweden, Emily is from LA, and Franky is from the UK.

LIKE DRIED ROCKMELON LOL. So actually I went to the bathroom alone, and Sofia warned me that I wouldn't be able to find the group again, and I was like no I'm so tall I can see over everyone, I'll find you guys in no time. So I went to the bathroom, and instead of urinals, they just had a long trough. Then, I tried to find everyone, and I couldn't, so I just kind of wandered around the whole entire market. I walked by this dried fruit stall and saw rockmelon and had never heard of that before, so I decided to buy some. Because I like weird things. It was really sweet, and I didn't even finish it.

REAL KANGAROO BALLS!

After about 2 hours, we left.

Across the street is Chinatown! Gotta go back sometime.

And down the street is Capitol Theatre

We walked a bit back to Darling Harbour to Pancakes on the Rocks!!!!!

I got the "Hot N Troppo" which had bananas and pecans and chocolate ice cream :D

After lunch, some of us wanted to walk across the Harbour Bridge, but then we google mapped it and found out it was quite far away. Jennifer wanted to buy a sheet, so we wandered a little around the city.

This is the Queen Victoria statue outside of the Queen Victoria Building.

I went home for a bit and then went to the grocery store after dinner. AND I FOUND ROCKMELON.

IT''S JUST CANTALOUPE!!! HAHAHA I thought it was some exotic fruit that was native to Australia... nope.

That was pretty much my day.

Aquarium! 8/2

This blog post has a lot of pictures (31).

I went to the aquarium with Chloe and Sofia! Sofia is from Sweden, and I met her on the Coogee-Bondi walk. She's really weird :P

The aquarium is at Darling Harbour, so we went back there. The plan was to go to the aquarium, get some food, wander around a bit, and then watch the fireworks. Darling Harbour is supposed to have fireworks every Saturday night at 8:30pm. EVERY Saturday!!! That's so crazy!

This is what the boat show looks like during the day. I prefer it in the night to be honest. THE BOAT SHOW IS STUPID.

Then this street entertainer was about to start a show and he had sticks on fire on the ground and I thought it was going to be a cool magic show but instead it was just a break dancer and I was very disappointed.

We went to the aquarium. Chloe and Sofia got the buy one get one free deal for arc members, but I didn't because my cashier was stupid!! What a rip-off. Just kidding.

The first things we saw were platypuses. They swim so quickly, this is the best picture I could get.

This turtle has a super long neck. He looks kind of like me.

This is a baby shark!!!

Sting ray

Penguins!!

OCTOPUS!!!

Seahorses

Really REALLY cool jelly fish!

JAPANESE SPIDER CRAB

D: LOL

Then I started with the shark selfies

The room was circular and had a glass ceiling the whole way around and so many sharks.

Sea anemone!

LOL

After we finished the aquarium, it was around 3 or 4pm, so we were a bit hungry. We looked around and all of the restaurants at the harbor were really overpriced. BUT we found this one restaurant with an awesome deal! So we had burgers for around $10 (and these came with fries).

Then we went to Harbourside, the mall at Darling Harbour, and window shopped a bit.

Forever 21 my favorite store!!~

We saw a lot of touristy things, like Australian flag short shorts and koala/kangaroo slippers.

After we were done wandering around the mall, it was getting closer to 8:30, and some of Sofia's friends were coming into the city to watch the fireworks. So, we were on our way back near the bus stop, and on our way there, I asked one of the police/security people on the bridge if there were going to be fireworks with the boat show in the harbor. AND THE BOAT SHOW IS STUPID. AND THEY SAID THE FIREWORKS WERE CANCELLED BECAUSE OF THE STUPID BOAT SHOW.

so baeyutahful

Sofia's friends were already in the city/on their way, so we broke the news to them when we met up with them. So, since the fireworks were cancelled, we decided to wander around the city instead.
SHOPPING ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Me & my pearlz~ :*

After a few shops, we went to Westfield tower and looked for some food because Jennifer, Michelle, and Kirsti hadn't eaten yet. Jennifer is on exchange from France, Michelle and Kirsti are full-time students and flatmates. Michelle is Australian from Melbourne and Kirsti is from Norway.

I wanted some dessert and there was a Din Tai Fung, so I ordered this thing called a golden lava bun. I couldn't read the Chinese, so I asked Chloe what it was and she described it as "a thing with a wet thing inside." My curiosity got the better of me.

On the receipt it just said "lava." Michelle asked what it was because it looked like an egg. I told her it was called lava. Then I bit into it and the inside was just wet yellow. Michelle commented it still looked like an egg, and asked how it tasted. And to be completely honest, it just tasted eggy.

Then, we went searching for this ice cream place, but my maps was wrong and then Michelle's maps was wrong. So we went to Woolworths (supermarket), and bought a few things; I got some bread and butter and VEGEMITE. Sofia bought us kangaroo jerky since she felt bad that I had to pay more for the aquarium ticket. So kind

They also have emu and crocodile jerky.

Then we went to McDonald's around the corner for ice cream.

McCafe in Australia is fancy. They have macarons...

AND MCDONALDS ALSO HAS FROZEN COKE WHICH IS JUST A COKE FLAVORED SLUSHEE BUT IT WAS AWESOME.

ignore kirsti's eye and nose, that frozen coke machine is heaven

And we ate the kangaroo jerky. And it was very tough and chewy. It was like a barbecue sauce flavored rubber band. I kind of liked it, but the rest of them described it as "dog food" "disgusting" "you can have the rest" etc. Maybe I'm a dog.

After a bit at McDonald's, we went home! What a long day.
